As it is Mother’s Day this week, I wanted to share some photographs I took of my friend Rachel and her two beautiful children, Poppie and Hendrix.
Even though I only met Rachel a few months ago when our children started school in September, I feel like I’ve known her for years. She’s an amazing Mum and person – generous, funny, and warm – and I love spending time with her.
When her little son Hendrix was born, I wanted to give her the gift of some photographs that capture the beautiful and magical period of when you first get to know your baby. When Cosmo was born, the talented Emily W took some photographs of us, which I really treasure. So it was a real pleasure to be able to do the same for another Mum.
It was really lovely to watch Poppie getting to know her little brother. Whilst playing and dancing around the room, she gave him a cuddle or stroke every few minutes and helped with the nappy change.
As with all of my family photography, I didn’t want to pose anything but show what life is like for Rachel, Poppie and Hendrix right now. There was no tidying up involved, no putting people in good light, no saying cheese. Just hanging out with them and using my camera to hold on to little moments.
