Anna and Deni were married on December 1 with their ceremony at York House in Twickenham followed by a lovely reception at the Retro Bistrot in Teddington. This was my first same-sex wedding and it was one of the most romantic days I’ve ever photographed. Deni is from Bulgaria and met Anna in a nightclub when she first came to London. Like a moment from a story, it was love at first sight and she decided to stay.
I joined Deni for her bridal preparations at the Alexandar Pope Hotel in Twickenham. Anna and Deni have a lot of history with the location they chose. When Deni first came to England, she lived in Twickenham and always went for walks along the Thames and the gardens of the registry office, which are wonderful. You could see the bench that she used to sit on from the hotel window where she was getting ready.
I travelled Deni to the registry room in York House where the ceremony was held. It was a small and intimate service. Anna and Deni each chose their two best friends to be there as witnesses. Since the brides love holidaying on the coast in Cornwall, they decided to immortalize this in their rings. This meaningful jewelry was based on a map of the stretch of coastline where they go on holiday together and a diamond is placed on the place where they got engaged. As they exited, they were showered in confetti and they both looked exuberant!
After, the whole group went for a small walk around the gardens at York Place to enjoy an uncharacteristically sunny winter morning. Anna and Deni and a group of close friends concluded their day with a celebratory lunch at the Retro Bistrot. The sun was shining and so were Anna and Deni’s smiles. It was a beautiful day and I was happy to be a part of it.
