“Thank you SO SO much for your photographs of our wedding day, they are absolutely STUNNING and exactly what we were hoping for, we couldn’t have wished for better memories of our special day. You really are a star and we were both wondering how on earth you manage to capture such beautiful moments without us even noticing you were taking them??”
~Mariko + Mark
Lego Lovers
When I first met Mariko and Mark in their Harringay home (just down the road from me), I knew that I was going to love photographing their wedding. They are such a lovely couple and and one of the sweetest things about them is that they love building Lego together. This so appeals to the geek in me – I love the idea of spending evenings with Steve listening to podcasts, drinking wine and building a huge Lego structure. What fun!
Gray’s Inn Wedding (or was it Hogwarts?)
Mariko and Mark tied the knot at the the elegant Gray’s Inn, which was a familiar setting for me. I photographed Chloe and Adam’s wedding there a couple of years ago.
Hidden away in the heart of London, Gray’s Inn is the home of London’s legal society. It is steeped in 600 years of history and offers a fantastic backdrop for a London wedding
Mariko’s Dad is a lawyer and has been a member of The Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn for many years. He was so proud to see his daughter get married there and gave great speech sharing this venue’s rich and colourful history.
The historical buildings, and in particular the Banqueting Hall have a real feel of Hogwarts about them. This made it a great setting for this wedding, as Mariko is a big Harry Potter fan. And the secluded gardens filled with blossoming trees were the perfect surroundings for Mariko and Mark to mingle with their guests.
A Japanese and Kiwi Union
Mariko is half Japanese and Mark is from New Zealand. Lots of the guests travelled from these far away regions to join the celebrations. It was lovely to see the elegant and intricate Kimonos worn by Mariko’s side of the family. Following Japanese tradition, the wedding did not go into the evening but finished after cutting the cake – followed by a visit to the pub.
Mariko and Mark – it was a real pleasure to meet you guys and spend the day with you. May your life together be filled with happiness, joy and beautiful moments (and of course, Lego!).
